Every year on the summer solstice, the Alzheimer\u2019s Association marks The Longest Day<\/em>, a national fundraiser that rallies individuals and organizations to raise money for care, support, and research. Communities across the country participate with activities that bring people together around a shared purpose: to end Alzheimer\u2019s.<\/p>

This year, Arabella of Athens<\/a> joined the effort in a way that felt true to the heart of East Texas. Their first-ever \u201cFishing for a Cure\u201d<\/strong> fundraiser turned their own private dock and lake into a gathering place for residents, families, and community members \u2014 all coming together for a day of fishing, food, and fundraising.<\/p>

From sunrise to sunset, fishermen rotated through the lakeside piers, while Arabella\u2019s chef kept the energy up with breakfast, lunch, and dinner served dockside. All proceeds from meals, donations, and other event activities directly benefited the Alzheimer\u2019s Coalition of Henderson County<\/strong>, ensuring support stayed local.<\/p>

But the event was more than just casting lines. Residents at The Cottage<\/em>, Arabella\u2019s memory care program<\/a>, added a personal touch. They contributed to a bake sale featuring items made during their weekly \u201cbread-making\u201d activity, including longtime resident Ellen E.\u2019s famous family-recipe cookies. Members of the Green Thumb Club also pitched in, donating jars of homemade salsa using vegetables they grew themselves.<\/p>

Media outlets across the greater Tyler area came to cover the event, capturing the emotion, energy, and purpose behind the day.<\/p>

\u201cIt means a fun day for one thing!\u201d Barbara M. told KLTV<\/a>. \u201cEveryone gets to fish \u2014 if they want to keep their fish, they can keep it.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cAnd it\u2019s for a good cause,\u201d her husband Dale chipped in.<\/p>

There were also somber moments, especially for Jeb D., who participated in honor of his late parents, who both had dementia.<\/p>

\u201cIt\u2019s a bad thing. I feel like I\u2019ve been robbed,\u201d he explained to the news outlet. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of people I know whose folks are getting it, and we need help.\u201d<\/p>

The event was organized by Community Relations Director Bre Holcomb<\/strong>, who\u2019s worked at Arabella since high school and continues to serve her hometown with passion.<\/p>

\u201cWe were blown away by the turnout and generosity of our community,\u201d she said. \u201cFishing for a Cure brought people of all ages together, and every dollar raised will help families facing Alzheimer\u2019s right here in Henderson County.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cFrom our residents\u2019 homemade goods to the anglers who spent all day on the docks, it was incredible to see so many come together with purpose and heart,\u201d she added. \u201cThis is what a community looks like!\u201d<\/p>
