What Bearcat Season Means in Aledo

Most towns have a football team they root for, but in Aledo, TX, the Bearcats are more than a local obligation. They’re a source of pride. Aledo High School has 12 state football championships to its name, the most in Texas history, and 33 district championships. That includes winning 11 of its last 16 seasons. They’ve turned the purple and gold school colors from a local tradition to a multigenerational identity that can be summed up by one word: winning.

But for a lot of locals, the games mean even more than winning. They mean memories of sitting in the stands in a baggy jersey watching their team pull out a win in the final seconds. They mean watching their kids and grandkids go from sitting with them in the stands to being down on the field and scoring those points themselves. The idea of celebrating local traditions with seniors often means bringing back the memories of years and years of Bearcat games by making some new ones with them.

Why Celebrating Traditions With Seniors Matters as the Seasons Change

Aledo seniors often feel they lack peers their own age, in a growing town where young families are often the focus of events. Missing out on a tradition as old as the Bearcat football season can make many feel like they’re losing more than a football game. The real fear is losing the thread that ties them to their town and the local Aledo traditions they’ve always known.

Many seniors raised families in Aledo and sent their kids there. The school is a part of the town’s self-image, and when it comes to including seniors in Aledo summer activities and fall events, that’s actually a good thing. It means that everyone shares something in common and feels it deeply. Families never have to wonder how to get their senior loved ones involved with local Aledo traditions. They just need a little help with the logistics.
