In 1952, a Marine stationed in Korea received a letter from someone he had never met. Her name was Kathleen H. She had asked for permission to write to him after the woman he had originally been exchanging letters with got engaged.<\/p>

That first letter led to many more.<\/p>

When Albert L. returned home, he and Kathleen finally met in person. They went on three dates, though their relationship didn\u2019t start off perfectly.<\/p>

\u201cI was writing to 13 different women,\u201d Albert admitted to WFAA<\/a>. He later stood up Kathleen on their second date.<\/p>

\u201cHe hasn\u2019t stood me up but that one time, but I won\u2019t ever forget that,\u201d Kathleen said in good humor. \u201cJust like an elephant, we don\u2019t ever forget.\u201d<\/p>

They married in 1954, and their love has blossomed ever since.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Seventy-one years later, in front of friends and family in Midlothian, Texas, they said \u201cI do\u201d again \u2014 this time in the halls at Midtowne Assisted Living and Memory Care<\/a>, where they live now.<\/p>

Their son Albert Jr. wheeled Kathleen down the aisle, while their oldest son, Robert, officiated the ceremony \u2014 a big surprise for the couple.<\/p>

“Wonderful, wonderful life,\u201d Albert told CBS Texas News<\/a> of his marriage and family. \u201cWouldn’t have it any other way.”<\/p>

“They always taught us a lot of lessons in life,” Robert described his parents to journalists. “They taught us how to love each other and love one another and love our fellow man.”<\/p>

What\u2019s the secret to their long marriage? According to Albert: \u201cShe is always right.\u201d<\/p>

The couple\u2019s vow renewal has since been featured on news outlets across Texas, even nationally on Inside Edition<\/a>.<\/p>

Their biggest fans remain rooted in Midlothian.<\/p>

\u201cAlbert and Kathleen\u2019s story is a beautiful reminder that love \u2014 real, enduring love \u2014 only grows stronger with time,\u201d said Activity Director Joewalla Vasil, who planned the elaborate event. \u201cWe\u2019re honored to witness and celebrate not just the moments that make headlines, but the everyday expressions of care, resilience, and connection that define lives well-lived.\u201d<\/p>
