They started first grade together in the small town of Alexander, New York. He was quiet. She was focused. By third grade, Richard G. had already made up his mind. \u201cI knew she would be my wife,\u201d he said of his then-classmate, Alice.<\/p>

On June 28, 1952, at the age of 19, the two stood side by side and exchanged their vows. They recently marked 73 years of marriage, celebrating with neighbors and team members at StoneCreek of North Richland Hills<\/a>, where they now live.<\/p>

Both Richard and Alice are 93 years old, with their birthdays only three days apart. After growing up in the same schools, graduating from high school in 1951 \u2014<\/em> with Alice as valedictorian \u2014 <\/em>they began building a life together that has spanned more than seven decades, three children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.<\/p>

\u201cThey\u2019ve always been very committed to each other,\u201d said one of their daughters, Linda C., to WFAA News<\/a>. \u201cI think that\u2019s what\u2019s kept them together, is that they\u2019re very comfortable with each other.\u201d<\/p>

In 1967, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Richard spent nearly three decades working for Bell Helicopter. Alice worked at JCPenney in the Northeast Mall. They both retired in 1995 after 28 years on the job. Not long after, Richard began woodworking and has since created a large collection of hand-built pieces, many of which are still on display in their home.<\/p>

\"Couple<\/p>

When asked about the secret to a marriage lasting over 70 years, Alice said, \u201cThere is no secret. When you love someone, you stay with them. Period.\u201d The couple sings \u201cYou Are My Sunshine\u201d to each other every day.<\/p>

The simple gesture has made their commitment feel meaningful each day. \u201cIt has made me love her more,\u201d Richard told journalist Sean Giggy. \u201cEvery day you\u2019ve got to have time to say, \u2018I love you,\u2019\u201d Alice added.<\/p>

Their story is well-known and an inspiration to residents and staff at StoneCreek of North Richland Hills. \u201cThis is the kind of history people carry with them,\u201d said Jeffrey Treml, Executive Director. \u201cIt deserves to be heard.\u201d<\/p>
