Before bubble packaging changed the way medications were delivered across healthcare communities in Texas, before nursing home administration had formal licensure, and before the role of long-term care professionals was widely understood, there was Johnnie B.<\/p>

The retired nurse now calls The Ridglea<\/a> home. Her inspiring career began in the 1940s. A graduate of Texas Wesleyan in 1948, she entered the workforce at a time when few women were in positions of administrative authority in healthcare \u2014 but that did not stop her. She became one of the first licensed nursing home administrators in the state of Texas. Then she helped write the rules.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Johnnie served six years as a charter member of the Texas Board of Licensure for Nursing Home Administrators. She held numerous leadership roles in professional organizations: six terms as president of the Tarrant County Nursing Home Association, vice president of the Texas Nursing Home Association, and a member of the Texas State Board of Health. On the national stage, she chaired the Residential Care Committee of the American Health Care Association.<\/p>

At a time when innovation in healthcare was still mostly centered in hospitals and research labs, Johnnie helped develop and patent a practical change that directly impacted residents\u2019 safety: the bubble pill packaging now used in senior living communities throughout the country. This packaging method \u2014 still in use today \u2014 offered a safer and more organized way for staff to administer medications.<\/p>

Johnnie B.\u2019s trailblazing legacy continues to inspire those around her. Her remarkable story and lifelong contributions to healthcare were recently featured in Fort Worth Magazine<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>
