At Élan Manatee Assisted Living & Memory Care, the community’s most recent Bible study was led not by a pastor or visiting speaker but by one of their own: Judy M., a longtime resident with a voice steady in both faith and experience.
Judy has been teaching Bible study since she was 25. Back then, she led young married couples through scripture in hopes of helping them build a foundation with God at the center. That calling began decades ago. It continues today.
Judy began filling in for the Bible study group at Élan Manatee. She opened with ease and spoke from experience, sharing verses and reflections with others who joined her in the community’s shared space. Her voice carried the kind of steadiness that comes with time.
“I felt the Holy Spirit move me to teach,” Judy said. “And I wanted those young couples to know what it means to keep God first.”
Now, surrounded by peers who bring their own stories, she continues the same work—reading, teaching, and speaking plainly about faith.
“At Élan Manatee, we’re proud to be a place where residents like Judy can continue doing what they love while inspiring others,” said Shannon Scragg, Executive Director of Élan Manatee. “Her dedication is a beautiful example of how our community grows stronger through the passions and purpose our residents bring with them.”
