The Artistic Side of Senior Living in Wimberley, TX

Table of Contents

Alexis Pointe is a vibrant and luxurious senior living community in Wimberley, Texas between Austin and New Braunfels. Our residents enjoy staying physically active, creating art, and tending to a beautiful garden.

Sitting on our property is a giant silo tank. It’s not an uncommon sight here in Texas, but there could be better things to view.

A few months back, some forward-thinking residents of Alexis Pointe came up with an idea during a brainstorming session with Community Relations Director Katy Starr. Together, they noticed that the tank had the potential for something that could stand out and make people happy.

“The goal of this project is to provide a beautiful, public art piece that will be enjoyed as the new view for Alexis Pointe senior residents,” says Starr.

To get the silo mural off the ground and hire an artist to accomplish such a task, Alexis Pointe is working to raise $5,000. The Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance (WVACA), ACE Hardware, and the City of Wimberley have been gracious enough to help us get close to our goal. Local community members also came through in a big way and contributed funds to our residents’ dream.

Because this is a locally funded work, “this mural will become an iconic public art piece that the greater Wimberley community and visitors can enjoy for years to come,” says Starr.

$5,000 buys a lot of paint. It’s also enough to pay the artist and construct a walking path around the silo. We hope to select an artist very soon to cover the 110 ft. by 6.5 feet tall tank. Local creatives may be interested to know the themes that residents have suggested:

  • Texas wildflowers
  • Sunset or sunrise
  • Wide-open Texas sky with puffy clouds
  • Lavender/verbena
  • Birds or white wing dove
  • Fox
  • Longhorn
  • River / pond
  • Landscape
  • Windmill
  • Deer
  • A little trail that goes throughout the scene
  • Wimberley history

We would like to thank the Hays Free Press for helping spread the word to community volunteers.
