Twice a month, StoneCreek of Littleton comes alive with the sound of violin music thanks to volunteer Jack W., who sets up a one-man performance, playing a selection of tunes entirely by ear. He has been playing the violin for 23 years and is completely self-taught — no sheet music needed.
The 83-year-old has been volunteering at StoneCreek of Littleton for one and a half years. Before moving to Colorado, he performed at six senior living communities across California, and now he plays exclusively at StoneCreek. His performances are always free of charge, offered as a gift to the community.

When asked why he continues to play here, Jack says StoneCreek of Littleton has the most enthusiastic and appreciative audience he’s encountered.
“I enjoy people who enjoy my music,” he told KUSA News 9. “And these people, especially here, are very, very caring.”
“They would have me play every week if I could,” he added.
Jack has passed his love for music on to several of his children and grandchildren, teaching them to play and keeping the tradition alive.
“Jack’s visits always bring something different to the community,” said Ashley Gainer, Executive Director of StoneCreek of Littleton. “He plays by ear, but his music hits just the right note with our residents every time, making these Tuesday afternoons something many look forward to.”
