Some people leave footprints, but Vernon P. left a forest. The team at The Bluffs of Flagstaff recently had the opportunity to honor their accomplished resident through a Miracle Moment.

Back in 1968 and 1969, as the Director of Forestry for the National Park in Cottonwood, Vernon oversaw a major tree-planting effort that shaped the landscape of Deadhorse Ranch. Since spearheading that impactful project, he hadn’t been back to the National Park since. More than five decades later, Vernon finally stood among the towering pines that started as saplings under his watch.
The occasion was extra special for two reasons. It was Vernon’s birthday, and his grandson planted a new tree among those his grandfather nurtured in his youth.
Joining Vernon and his family was the The Bluffs of Flagstaff team who helped bring this idea to fruition: Executive Director Andy Auteri, Independent Living Manager Deborah Lizarraga, and Activities Director Shelby Davison.
“Vernon’s work has stood the test of time, and this visit is about more than just looking back; it’s about planting the future,” said Andy Auteri. “We were honored to celebrate this moment with him and his family.”
