Residents Took Their Places as Cornhole Coaches

Seniors Teach Students Cornhole | Arabella of Longview
4th and 5th grade students from Longview ISD play cornhole with residents at Arabella of Longview.

Beanbags flew, and boards clacked at Arabella of Longview when 4th and 5th-graders from Longview ISD visited to play cornhole with senior residents. The activity was part of the community’s intergenerational program, giving students and residents a chance to swap tips, compete, and share some laughs along the way.

The Pros Showed the Kids How to Perfect Their Toss

Residents served as coaches, showing students the best tosses and aiming techniques, while students brought energy and a few unexpected strategies of their own. Friendly competition filled the space as beanbags occasionally missed, sometimes landing just shy of the board, and sometimes hitting their mark.

Every Round Brought New Stories and Teaching Moments

“Watching residents and students play together was lively and rewarding,” said Rae Quezada, Executive Director of Arabella of Longview. “The students were curious, the residents enjoyed teaching, and everyone walked away with a story from the game.”

Residents had the opportunity to share what they know about the game while students brought fresh energy to each round. The back-and-forth between generations created chances for both groups to learn something new in Longview, TX.
