Little Hands and Big Hearts Create Art Side by Side

Paintbrushes, colorful stones, and shared stories shaped a creative afternoon when students from The Mindset Integration Academy joined residents at Double Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care for a “Kindness Rocks” art day. The group of homeschoolers, ages 7–12, spent time decorating canvases with uplifting messages and artwork, bringing energy and imagination to the community space in Round Rock, TX.
This Partnership Has Been Rocking Since Spring
The students have visited Double Creek several times since spring 2025, reading with residents and making tie-dye shirts during past visits. Their ongoing collaboration has created opportunities for both the children and the residents to connect through creativity and conversation.
Chef Santoria initiated the partnership earlier this year and continues to coordinate the visits alongside Activities Director Mimi Nguyen.
“Watching the children and residents work side by side was moving,” said Mimi. “The energy in the room, the questions asked, and the stories shared reminded everyone that creativity can bridge generations.”
Residents worked alongside the young students, decorating stones with colorful designs and uplifting messages. The children asked questions and shared their own stories while painting, creating natural opportunities for conversation and laughter between the generations. Each canvas became a keepsake decorated with personal touches from both young and seasoned artists.
Chef Santoria Sparked This Creative Collaboration
Chef Santoria from The Mindset Integration Academy reached out earlier this year to start the partnership. Since spring, the students have made multiple trips to spend time with residents through different hands-on activities. Each visit brings new projects and fresh opportunities for residents to share their wisdom while learning from the younger generation’s perspective.
