A Love Story That Shows Up Every Day
Every evening at 7 p.m., Carmelita V. walks from her apartment at Arabella of Red Oak to The Cottage, the community’s memory care neighborhood, to help her husband get ready for bed. More importantly, she reminds him that he is still the love of her life.
The couple moved to Arabella of Red Oak in April 2023 after Jerry V.’s Parkinson’s disease progressed and daily life at home became more difficult. While the transition came with challenges, it also brought the support and structure they needed.

Staying Active and Connected in Red Oak
Since moving in, Carmelita became an active and familiar presence throughout the community. She serves as an Arabella Ambassador, supports the resident council as secretary, and sings in the Arabella Choir.
Even while managing her own health, including regular dialysis treatments, she continues to stay involved and connected with those around her.
Honoring Love Through a Miracle Moment
In February, Arabella of Red Oak honored Carmelita and Jerry through the My Miracle Moment program with a wedding renewal and a celebration of Carmelita’s heart transplant anniversary, which she calls her second birthday.
Jerry often shares, “I had my wife’s old heart, and now I have her new heart.”
The celebration recognized not just their milestones, but their continued devotion through life’s challenges.
