Ledgestone Senior Living is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the Dripping Springs Art League (DSAL) to bring art and nature together in a transformative project: The Butterfly Moments Garden.

Ledgestone Senior Living | The Butterfly Moments Garden
Residents at Ledgestone Senior Living in Austin, TX paint kindness rocks to help decorate their new Butterfly Moments Garden in memory care.

This revitalized courtyard in Austin, TX, will offer residents a therapeutic and enriching outdoor experience, thoughtfully designed with accessibility, sensory engagement, and emotional connection in mind. Through curated art, pollinator-friendly landscaping, and community collaboration, the Butterfly Moments Garden will become a lasting expression of creativity, comfort, and care.

A Garden with Purpose

The Butterfly Moments Garden represents a full reimagining of the existing courtyard at Ledgestone’s memory care neighborhood. This multi-phase initiative is designed to support cognitive wellness, emotional connection, and social engagement through thoughtful design and artistic collaboration.

Ledgestone is overseeing the complete landscape redesign, which includes native, pollinator-friendly plants, shaded seating areas, and accessible walking paths for residents of all mobility levels. The Dripping Springs Art League is curating and commissioning professionally created artworks that will be placed throughout the garden to stimulate reflection and joy for residents and visitors alike.

Featured Installations and Artistic Contributions

The Butterfly Moments Garden will include a series of curated installations designed to offer interactive, sensory, and reflective experiences. Current contributors and features include:

  • Butterfly Mosaic Wall Art (Cathy Richardson): A 5-6 ft mural created with intricate mosaic tiles
  • Stained Glass Spinners (Mary Orcutt): Sculptural butterfly-shaped spinners
  • Ceramic Windchime (Linda Moon): Created in collaboration with residents through a memory care ceramics club
  • Butterfly Resting Station (Starlia Philips): A whimsical ceramic installation designed to welcome butterflies
  • Outdoor Xylophone: A park-grade, interactive musical element
  • Cyanotype Childhood Memories Banner (Melissa Young, Wild Persimmon Art): A fabric banner honoring personal memories
  • Ceiling Mural (Cathy Richardson): A covered patio ceiling mural inspired by Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” honoring Dripping Springs as a Dark Sky Community

Residents have already begun to create their own works of art in anticipation of The Butterfly Moments Garden. Through the Kindness Rock Painting Project, families of all ages gathered at Ledgestone to decorate rocks with thoughtful messages and vibrant colors. The painted rocks will be placed throughout the community, symbolizing the intergenerational spirit and creativity that inspired the project.
