Dixie Lamar’s leadership has shaped daily life at Long Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care. She often makes her rounds in the morning to our memory care neighborhood, greeting each of our seniors by name. With her calm demeanor and years of experience, she has laid out a daily routine for each of our community’s memory care residents and has kept them feeling welcomed and supported from the start.
Dixie was named Memory Care Coordinator of the Year by Civitas Senior Living in 2025 for her hard work and commitment to the needs and goals of our residents, their families, and her coworkers. Since joining the Long Creek team in September 2017, Dixie’s impact on daily life has been a shining example of gentle, firm support for both residents and their families.
Care Guided by Personal Experience and Understanding
Certified in Dementia Live, Dixie has put her training to work with purposeful routines, designed to alleviate anxiety and increase interaction. Activities that she plans frequently feature residents’ favorite music, crafts that encourage creativity, and family-style household chores, enabling residents to remain engaged in familiar experiences. Her own family history has shaped her devotion to memory care.
Dixie’s grandfather had dementia, and seeing her aunt care for him taught her the value of patience, advocating for others, and being fully present when helping those in need. The supportive nature of her family, in turn, influenced the empathy and attention she has brought to this role and the way she cares for all people.
