It began with a shared vision: a space where learning, care, and real-world experience come together to reshape dementia support. The Ridglea Senior Living, a leader in assisted living and memory care in Fort Worth, is bringing that vision to life through a new partnership with Dr. Michelle Kimzey’s Dementia in the Community course at Texas Christian University (TCU).
Five TCU students joined The Ridglea’s team weekly to work directly with residents in The Cottage. Through this collaboration, students brought their energy, specialized dementia training, and fresh perspectives while observing firsthand the high-quality, personalized care the senior living community provides.

The partnership goes beyond standard academic engagement. Dr. Kimzey, who leads the campus organization Students for a Dementia Friendly TCU, brings her mission of raising awareness, combating stigma, and promoting inclusivity to the program. Her approach matches The Ridglea’s goal of creating enriching experiences for every resident.
NBC 5 DFW’s Wake Up to Something Good segment highlighted the meaningful relationship.
“This program matters to our community as it brings generations together in ways that benefit everyone,” said Liz Dailey, Executive Director of The Ridglea. “Our residents enjoy new friendships, interactive activities, and shared experiences, while TCU students gain hands-on knowledge and insights that will shape the future of healthcare. It’s an exchange of energy, knowledge, and compassion that strengthens our community every week.”
