One 85-year-old’s love of basketball went from the sidelines to courtside thanks to a surprise from The Ridglea Senior Living.
Resident Becky has called the Fort Worth, TX, senior living community home since 2020. Once a high school basketball player, she never lost her passion for the game. When the Dallas Wings caught her attention, the team became part of her daily routine.
Becky followed the Wings closely, especially standout player Paige Bueckers. She never missed a broadcast on TV and often ordered meals for her apartment so she wouldn’t have to step away from the screen. Staff noticed her dedication and planned surprise tickets to see the Wings play in person.

On game day, Becky’s passion for basketball came full circle. From her early years on the high school court to cheering live for her favorite WNBA team, she experienced basketball in a whole new way. This outing marked her first WNBA game, and she got to share it with her son-in-law, Randy, along with the community’s Executive Director, Elizabeth Dailey, and Community Relations Director, Michela Francis.
Outings like Becky’s show how senior living can bring joy not only to residents but also to their families.
“It’s not every day you get to see the game up close, especially for someone who has followed basketball for years,” Dailey shared. “We wanted Becky to cheer on the Wings in person and relive some of that court action she remembers so well.”
