Wichita-born, Weatherford-based, and now 100 years into life — Hyla J. is far from slowing down.
The newly christened centenarian has officially been around for ten decades. Born May 22, 1925, in Wichita, Kansas, Hyla has seen a lot, though she’s not one to make a big deal about it.
Now a resident at West Fork at Weatherford, a senior living community, Hyla moved in shortly before her 99th birthday, and has already made her mark.
Every day, she wears a flower in her hair. So when she stopped by her previous community for a birthday Happy Hour, the residents joined in, and everyone wore flowers in their hair. It’s very possible the trend will continue at West Fork at Weatherford!
When asked about her secret to a long life, Hyla reveals, “Stay busy and work hard.” When asked to name the most important invention of the past century, she answered without hesitation: “Birth control.”
“Hyla tells it like it is. We like that about her,” said Jacy Poe, Executive Director at West Fork at Weatherford. “She keeps things simple and sharp.”
Hyla’s birthday celebration was shared with the community, published both in print and online in The Weatherford Democrat.
