Dorris’s Miracle Moment at Legacy Oaks of Azle Senior Living

Only 0.03% of Americans live to be 100 years old. At Legacy Oaks of Azle, we’re lucky enough to know one of them personally.

Dorris N. is sharp, funny, kind—and about to join the century club. She’s been part of our community for just one year, but she’s made a lasting impact in that short time. Whether she’s sharing a laugh or offering a kind word, Dorris has a way of brightening every room she enters.

Legacy Oaks of Azle | Senior celebrating her 100th birthday
Legacy Oaks of Azle celebrated a Miracle Moment with a resident and her family. Happy Birthday, Dorris. Cheers to many more to come!

To honor this once-in-a-lifetime milestone, our team planned something truly special through our My Miracle Moment program. We wanted to celebrate the joy, the wisdom, and the love that Dorris brings to everyone around her. So we threw her a surprise birthday party—the day before her 100th birthday.

With help from Activities Director Barbie Goralski and Dorris’s family, the celebration was beautiful. Loved ones from near and far gathered, ready to surprise her. When Dorris walked into the party and saw the faces of family members she hadn’t expected to see — including her great-granddaughter, who calls her “Mimi” — she was overwhelmed with joy. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

“She’s just been the most wonderful mother,” one family member said through tears. And her friend Barv, another resident at Legacy Oaks, shared: “I’ve known Dorris since the day I moved in, and I fell in love with her immediately. She’s as sharp as a tack, warm, and caring. She’s just someone you want to be around.”

Dorris was glowing, laughing the whole time, and simply enjoying the moment. That’s what she does best. When asked her secret to staying so vibrant, she smiled and said, “Take care of yourself. I always tried to live a Christian life.”

And it shows. At 100, Dorris looks fabulous and still stuns people when they find out her age. She’s proof that living with love, purpose, and a good sense of humor goes a long way.

She often tells us how much she enjoys life at Legacy Oaks. “The people here treat us very good,” she said. “I just want to laugh all the time.”

We’re proud to celebrate residents like Dorris through our Miracle Moments program. These experiences give us a chance to honor the individuals who make our community so special — whether they’re dancing in ballet, revisiting a passion, or reaching an amazing milestone like turning 100.

Happy Birthday, Dorris. You make 100 look incredible.
