Writing a book is no small task, but two senior residents at Legacy Oaks of Azle in Azle, Texas, did just that, and participated in a signing event to celebrate.
Surrounded by neighbors and friends, the two authors shared their paths to publication. Both women recently completed and released their own books. And, of course, their fellow neighbors had to organize a book signing event to show off the work behind the words.

Georgia L. wrote Our Remarkable Journey, a personal account of her life with her late husband, Jim. The book reflects on decades of partnership, family, and the decisions that shaped their time together. Her storytelling held the attention of everyone who attended, and some of the audience never heard her speak in such detail about her past before.
Beside her sat Nickie A., who authored and illustrated a children’s book titled Three Little Frogs and the Magic Jumping Oil. Nickie’s story, complete with hand-drawn illustrations, follows three frogs on a playful adventure. It was written for children, but it clearly resonated with adults as well, as they had to ask about her process and inspiration.
The signing brought together people who had known Georgia and Nickie for years but who were seeing them in a new light as authors sharing their work, all within the everyday setting of their community.
“These books are proof that creativity doesn’t retire,” said Nichol Wesson, Executive Director of Legacy Oaks of Azle. “We wanted to make space for that to be seen. And we’re so happy to celebrate Georgia and Nickie’s work and share their stories with the community.”
