Top of her class: Here’s Dr. Louise and her young fans!

A retired educator and nationally published children’s writer, Dr. Louise believes in the power of reading to spark curiosity, foster empathy, and build connections across generations. She loves visiting elementary and middle school classrooms, sharing her books, and helping students improve their creative skills. And this isn’t the first time she’s been in the news!

Dr. Louise is an Amazing, Award-Winning Children’s Author

Some of Dr. Louise’s most famous works include “Grandpa Has a Windmill, Grandma Had a Churn” and “Exiled! From Tragedy to Triumph on the Missouri Frontier.” That second book won the WILLA Award (named after Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Willa Cather) in 2008 for “the best juvenile books written about Women in the West.”

In 2022, Jackson also won the Laura Ingalls Wilder Literary Award for the body of her work.

“We are thrilled to partner with Owens Elementary for this meaningful Miracle Moment,” said Sara Teichgraeber, Activities Director at The Hamptons of Tyler. “Our residents have a wealth of life experiences and knowledge to share, and this was a wonderful opportunity for her to connect with the younger generation in a positive, enriching way.”
