The Bluffs Dining Program Featured by Local Food Columnist

Table of Contents

To those who call The Bluffs of Flagstaff home, the deliciousness of daily meals comes as no surprise. However, inviting members of the public to visit and their new perspective is a reminder of how truly unique the Passionate Dining Program is.

There’s a lot of thought and consideration that goes into planning breakfast, lunch, and dinner options that are visually appealing, taste great and are nutritious as well. The culinary team focuses on three primary goals:

  • Customized Options: Tailored meal plans catering to specific dietary needs, including the MINDful Menu for brain health.
  • Interactive Experiences: Themed dining events and cooking classes that foster community engagement.
  • Nutritional Education: Workshops led by nutritionists to empower residents with knowledge about healthy eating.

At The Bluffs of Flagstaff, residents get the best of both worlds – delicious and nutritious food for every meal of the day.

Gail G. Collins, a food columnist for the AZ Daily Sun, recently tried a few plates at the senior living community. It inspired the article, Matter of Taste: The Bluffs of Flagstaff Senior Living creates moments around meals.

From the weekly steakhouse service to the beloved bistro (which serves snacks, pizza, and paninis), Collins wrote about many of the eating options offered to residents. And there’s plenty to choose from: 30 items on the rotating quarterly menu with daily specials. Favorite dishes include prime rib, pan-seared duck, or black tiger shrimp brochette.

“We run a country club-level kitchen staff,” Executive Director Andy Auteri told the publication. “I look for creativity in tailored offerings. People eat with their eyes, and food needs to be received well.”

One of the most impressive options the dining service offers is its MINDful menu. The heart- and brain-healthy foods support cognitive function. The hope is that it helps slow the impact of dementia; the use of oshibori towels stimulates appetite as well.

Once a month, The Bluffs hosts family night, which includes an extensive buffet capable of feeding its 150-200 guests.

“These moments are more than a meal,” Auteri shared with the author. “They gather, meet, and tell their stories to one another.”
