From Classroom to Leadership: A Lifelong Impact
Dwayne B., a lifelong educator and former interim superintendent at Chapel Hill ISD, received recognition at the October 31 Chapel Hill vs. Henderson football game recently, and we at The Hamptons Senior Living couldn’t have been more excited.

Thanks to our activities team, as part of our Miracle Moments program, Dwayne stepped onto the field, revisited the excitement, and got the applause earned through decades of teaching and leadership.
Dwayne has spent his career shaping young minds across East Texas, balancing teaching, coaching, and mentoring. He made history at Caddo Mills High School by guiding the team to a 10-2 record and a bi-district championship, while helping Chapel Hill reach its first-ever playoff appearance. One unforgettable game saw his team score 48 points in a single quarter against Troup, setting a state record. Notable players under his guidance included Leonard McCown, Fullback and East Texas Player of the Year; Jerry Mumphrey, Slot, who went on to a 12-year Major League Baseball career with an All-Star season for the New York Yankees; and Lionel Carey, All-District quarterback.
Following that landmark year, Dwayne accepted an administrative role at Chapel Hill. Over the next 30 years, he climbed the ranks: from Vocational School Director to High School Counselor, to Director of Operations, and ultimately to Superintendent. Students, colleagues, and families have benefited from his leadership, humor, and steady guidance throughout his career.
Game Night at Bulldog Stadium
The evening included a walk onto the field with current superintendent Lamond D., followed by cheering for the Bulldogs in action once more.
Rob Jones, Executive Director of The Hamptons of Tyler, said, “Dwayne proves that a love of learning lasts a lifetime. He has influenced countless students and staff through teaching, leadership, and everyday kindness. The district recognizing him is well deserved.”
Life Beyond the Classroom
Outside of work, Dwayne enjoys woodworking, river fishing, and hunting. He is also a writer and member of the Silver Leos Writing Guild, contributing to seven published anthologies. He shares life with his wife Earlene, their two children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, while continuing to share his humor and insight at Green Acres Baptist Church.
The Hamptons of Tyler was ready to celebrate Dwayne’s story, offering congratulations and joining in a night that underscores how one person can impact so many lives.
