Our Epic Senior Mardi Gras Party Brought the House Down!

Arabella of Athens was thrilled to host an extravagant Mardi Gras celebration on February 13th. This over-the-top occasion was an unforgettable event that honored two of our beloved senior residents, Dot and Johnny, who both hail from the beautiful state of Louisiana.

Our team created this colorful, exciting, (sometimes loud and boisterous) Miracle Moment that exceeded everyone’s expectations. Every detail spotlighted the vibrant culture and cherished traditions of Louisiana, and our residents and team members can’t stop talking about how much fun they had.

A Grand Entrance That’ll Go Down in History

Dot and Johnny are cherished members of our community, both with family roots that can be traced back to Bayou Country. They’re not shy about letting everyone know where they come from; we just love Dot’s radiant spirit and Johnny’s jovial presence.

Arabella of Athens brought the magic of Mardi Gras to East Texas on February 13, 2024, with a grand spectacle befitting the occasion: Dot and Johnny were brought to the festivities in regal style aboard a magnificent horse-drawn carriage, symbolizing their reign as Mardi Gras King and Queen!

As “their highnesses” were escorted in, the air was filled with the melodious tunes of a jazz saxophone. Our guests were captivated by our senior Mardi Gras celebration and felt like they were transported to the lively streets of New Orleans.

Live Music, Great Food, and Fun Mardi Gras Activities for Seniors

The celebration went on for hours and featured Creole-style entertainment, live music, Mardi Gras games for seniors, delectable cuisine, and spirited revelry. It was a truly immersive Mardi Gras experience for all attendees, and one we’ll never forget – these photos give an idea of how much fun we had.

“Our residents brought the spirit of Mardi Gras to life with their cherished memories and joyful personalities,” remarked Bre Holcomb, Community Relations Director of Arabella of Athens. “It was an honor to celebrate their Louisiana heritage and create cherished moments that will be treasured by all.”
