Sometimes, timing makes all the difference. Take John and Jane Y., who recently celebrated 61 years of marriage in The Hamptons of Tyler. Their story started with a phone call, a double date, and a twist of fate that changed everything.

Jane grew up in Rhode Island and worked as a telephone operator. John, from Connecticut, served in the Navy as a Seabee, part of the construction battalion. One day, a mutual friend set up a double date, but John already had plans with another woman. Thanks to some friendly persuasion, he canceled that date and joined the group.
Meanwhile, Jane had just been temporarily assigned to a different phone company district and was invited by a coworker to the same double date. Before the night kicked off, John called the operator line to cancel his first date. And Jane answered. She overheard him canceling and later realized that the man she was about to meet was the same one who’d just called.
When Jane brought it up during the date, John was caught off guard but honest. What began as an odd coincidence turned into a friendship and, over time, something much deeper.
“We talked all night and just clicked right away,” Jane told a reporter with KETK. “I never dreamed I’d go on a blind date and end up marrying him.”
“If I had to do it all over again, I’d do it twice,” John added.
“John and Jane’s story reminds us that sometimes, life’s best connections start with a phone call and a little good timing,” said Rob Jones, Executive Director of The Hamptons of Tyler. “Fate was definitely what brought John and Jane together through a few unexpected turns. We’re glad to celebrate their 61 years together.”
