Three Sisters Bring Seniors Together Through Monthly Craft Gatherings

Once a month, three sisters arrive at The Hamptons of Tyler in East Texas with scissors, summer snacks, and a well-thought-out plan. Residents are already waiting for them.

Pat, Debbie, and Cathy, known around the community as the Sunshine Sisters, lead a monthly crafting group that draws 10 to 12 participants without fail. A recent meetup featured strawberry-themed projects, seasonal decorations, and plenty of watermelon to give the morning a light picnic feel.

Tyler Sisters Keep a Local Legacy Going

After their mother, a former resident of The Hamptons, passed away, the sisters chose to keep showing up. They brought crafting supplies and an idea. This turned into a monthly tradition that residents look forward to.

“I can’t do most art projects by myself because my hands shake,” said resident Gwen. “But the sisters help me, so I participate in something creative.”

Another resident, Barbara, shared a personal connection. “One of the sisters is the mother of two of my former elementary students. Now we catch up on their lives and share memories.”

Craft Tables That Stick to the Calendar

In addition to monthly craft mornings, the Sunshine Sisters coordinate two larger seasonal gatherings each year. Even so, the steady, month-to-month meetups keep the momentum going.

“They bring everything they need and get right to it,” said Rob Jones, Executive Director at The Hamptons of Tyler. “Residents know the day and time. They put it on their calendar.”

The story also caught attention from the broader community. CBS19 recently featured the sisters and their continued connection to The Hamptons of Tyler, helping share their story with the wider East Texas audience.
